CALL TO ACTION: OUR VOICES ARE MISSING... ADD YOURS!
On Monday, May 8, City Planning—in coordination with the Mayor’s Office—unveiled the Eds and Meds Planning Framework for Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene, backpedaling on their prior decision—when we petitioned them—to refrain from publishing the document.
See the press release HERE.
See the published Eds and Meds Framework HERE.
The Framework, now featured on City Planning’s website alongside multi-year comprehensive planning efforts, involves zero broad-based community engagement and includes minimal community briefings to only a handful of stakeholders.
City Planning says the document is “advance planning” undertaken well before any rezonings and that it does not preclude community engagement down the line.
We believe—as City Planning has acknowledged with the recent announcement of their new Community Planning and Engagement Division—that the community should be engaged from the outset of planning processes.
So, we, are announcing the start of our own “advance engagement” on the Framework and related issues. We’ll begin by asking all of you who live and work in the area or use the park to weigh in with your feedback. Then we’ll explore ways of supporting an extensive community-led process with Council Member Crystal Hudson in the coming months.
